Sinar Mas Land and Mitbana Build Smart Concept TOD in BSD City

Encouraging BSD City to become a smart city that is integrated and easily accessible from various destinations.

Sinar Mas Land again presents a BSD City development plan by starting a collaboration with Mitbana Pte Ltd, a joint venture between Surbana Jurong and Mitsubishi Corporation. This collaboration aims to develop a transit-oriented development (TOD) with a smart and sustainable concept in BSD City.

Since its founding in March 2019, Mitbana itself is known as a company that focuses on city-scale development and TOD in Southeast Asian and South Asian countries. This collaboration between Sinar Mas Land and Mitbana will assist TOD-based integrated development based on current urban trends, especially with considerations related to the current post-pandemic. Through this development, the infrastructure created is expected to support the Indonesian government in managing good connectivity for residents and commuters in Jakarta and Tangerang.

Increasingly Developing BSD City as an Integrated Smart City

Sinar Mas Land itself has started the construction of BSD City since the 1980s until now it continues to grow with various facilities ranging from commercial centers, schools, shopping centers, hospitals, hotels, to convention center. This collaboration will also accelerate the development of residential, commercial, and transportation areas in the city. Michael Widjaja, Group Chief Executive Officer of Sinar Mas Land, said, “We welcome the collaboration with Mitbana for the advancing BSD City into a smart city integrated, connected, and easily accessible from various destinations. With this partnership, Mitbana will become our largest developer partner in BSD City. We hope that this collaboration will provide added value for the residents of BSD City and its surroundings and this project can also be a reference for the development of TOD in Indonesia.”

Regarding development as an integrated smart city, BSD City has also indeed developed several digital-oriented projects such as: Digital Hubs and training cloud computingwhich was held on the ITSB campus. Apart from that, BSD City itself has also been entrusted with hosting several well-known technology companies, such as the Apple Developer Academy (which is run by Apple together with local universities) and Grab (online transportation company from Singapore).

“Indonesia has great potential for TOD in the future and is a great opportunity for Mitbana. We are passionate about realizing our shared vision of becoming a leading urban development platform through sustainable smart city development. When the world is struggling with the Covid-19 pandemic, Mitbana is looking for relevant methods to answer the needs and desires of the community for the environment in the future. Therefore, we are working with Sinar Mas Land to define and provide a holistic urban solution to support communities and improve business in Indonesia. This development will be carried out in several phases which we will show in the future.” added Gareth Wong, Chief Executive Officer of Mitbana
