Seeing Samsung's Steps to Support the Tizen OS Ecosystem in Indonesia

Invest in education to develop monetization and create apps that have a positive impact on society

The end of the competition Indonesia Next Apps 3.0 (INA 3.0) yesterday was Samsung's first step to introduce the Tizen operating system to the Indonesian public via launching smartphone Samsung Z2. INA 3.0 itself is one of Samsung's efforts to enrich content in the Tizen ecosystem. In the future, besides continuing to hold INA, Samsung also promises to invest in education so that it can help developers in creating applications and also finding the right monetization model.

The presence of Tizen as a new operating system can actually open up many new opportunities in terms of innovation for local developers. In reality, technology is a dynamic thing and its success is largely underpinned by how the industry that embraces it can deliver the right market share growth strategy. When you look at the numbers, smartphone Samsung itself is a handset most popular which was successfully sold in Indonesia as of 2015.

Even so, Samsung did not immediately position Tizen as a rival operating system for the two platform most popular today-Android and iOS. Samsung prefers to put Tizen as a user bridge feature phone who want to switch to smartphone to embrace more users. After all, Samsung itself has developed into brand strong enough that managed to dominate the market smartphone in Indonesia for various classes, be it low-end devices or high-end devices.

One thing to keep after Tizen officially enters Indonesia as an operating system smartphone in the Samsung Z2 device is momentum. Yes, the momentum to continue to embrace more local developers to enrich content on Tizen. One way is through the INA competition which will be held again next year.

Samsung Indonesia Content & Service Manager Dolly Surya Wisaka said, “Samsung will continue to maintain momentum engagement with these developers. Every year we also have this program [INA competition], although the theme is different. […] Next year, hopefully we can also hold the same program again [INA competition] to maintain relations with developers more encouragement other friends to be more productive in making more capable applications.”

“Besides, […] we will alsodevelop for evangelist for friends developer. [...] Evangelist this is made for educate yourself friends developer to Samsung's Tizen ecosystem," added Dolly.

Not much different, the Director of the Samsung R&D Institute Indonesia Risman Adnan also revealed that: next step What Samsung will take to sustain the Tizen ecosystem is to invest in education. The purpose of this investment is to introduce the Tizen ecosystem to local developers. In addition, application development that has a positive impact on society and also finding the right business model will be one of the elements that is considered.

Risman said, "It's like there are 1000" steps to be entrepreneur the successful one, while this INA is new step from 0 to 1 because it becomes entrepreneur it has many aspects. […] Become entrepreneur [technology] is not only possible coding, submit apps, then appthere's something download Of course, there is still a long way to go and Samsung hopes to contribute here. […] When he [developers] says 'I can be technical', but there are a lot of non-technical ones [that he doesn't necessarily know].”

"So for next stepSamsung will invest in education, help develop monetization for app the best, and helps in creating applications that have impact directly to consumers," continued Risman.

Risman also revealed that it is possible that next year his party will develop platform to make it easier for developers learn more about Tizen. For example, through online learning courses to reach the developer outside Java or through Forums which can be a place for discussion.

As a new operating system, Tizen which is open sourceplatform does require a lot of support in order to grow. Local developers who participated in INA also said that one of the challenges they faced in developing Tizen applications was the lack of documentation.

This is actually natural and if you have experienced how to develop applications for Android at the beginning of its appearance, the same thing must have been felt. However, as time goes by and more documentation is collected, Android can now become an operating system mobile devices most popular in the world.

The only thing that is difficult to predict is the market reaction in accepting Tizen as an alternative operating system. Although the target market is very specific, keep in mind that there are quite a number of Android devices targeting the same segment as Tizen.

The most important key to reach the market here is innovation born from the hands of the developer who are willing to develop applications for Tizen and can answer the thirst of users who are getting bored with the existing operating system. If there is, it is not impossible that Tizen can grow as one of the alternative operating systems to be reckoned with.

Samsung itself is brand large, whose products are not limited to technological devices such as smartphone, smart TV or laptop. There are still products such as refrigerators, washing machines, or air conditioners that are homeelectronic products and part of the market potential smarthome which has not yet been fully exploited.
