Rudiantara Invites Foreign Technology Companies to Create Digital Talents in Indonesia

Target 20 thousand talents in 2019

The issue of talent is still an obstacle in Indonesia. The lack of ability of the younger generation of Indonesia related to technology and digital business is a concern of the government. The Minister of Communication and Information, Rudiantara, aggressively invites startups to technology companies to help Indonesia improve its capabilities and capabilities skill digital power in Indonesia.

In an event inauguration data center Second Alibaba Cloud (09/1), the Minister of Communication and Information also invited Alibaba Cloud representatives to help Indonesia produce digital talent. So that the import of foreign workers is no longer a priority for startups to technology companies in Indonesia.

"I don't recommend startups or technology companies to hire foreign workers as engineer in Indonesia. However, by providing broad knowledge and insight to talent, of course, it can provide more benefits for the digital workforce in Indonesia."

In this case, Rudiantara recommends Alibaba Cloud to present the curriculum and syllabus HERE. Previously, Rudiantara had conveyed his intention to Jack Ma to build academies in Indonesia. But for now the focus is more on training and classes on a small scale first.

Responding to the request from the Minister of Communication and Information, Alibaba Cloud is still accommodating the input and of course trying to continue to support programs from the Indonesian government.

Indonesia's 20 thousand digital talent program

In addition to inviting startups and technology companies to create training, classes and programming academies, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics has also collaborated with around 20 universities in 12 cities in Indonesia to apply lessons such as big data, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, cloud computing and digitalbusiness into their curriculum.

The target is that by 2019, around 20 thousand new digital talents have been born in Indonesia. In addition to the five recommended curricula, Kominfo also wants to add Internet of Things, robotics and Programming into Indonesia's digital talent program.

"The Indonesian government has been quite open to foreign investors to invest in Indonesia. But we also invite them to make other contributions in the form of education for talents in Indonesia," said Rudiantara.
