Jagofon Presents Used Phone E-commerce Platform, Facilitates Quality Testing

Only serving the Jabodetabek area and accommodates mobile phones from the 3 best-selling premium brands in Indonesia

The amount of product demand smartphone in Indonesia, inspired Stéphane Becquart to launch the platform E-commerce good phone. The unique value of this service is that every second-hand item they offer has been tested for quality and originality -- this verification is expected to give potential buyers more confidence.

The process includes two main aspects, namely IMEI checks to ensure the goods are legal. And the second checks the functionality of the device, including camera, microphone, battery, sensors, screen etc. The selling price will be adjusted according to the final assessment result.

They have 4 types of assessment of the products sold, from the lowest to the highest, including Fair, Good, Very Good, and Mint. The status will be attached to the product and affect the percentage of depreciation or decrease from the initial price.

"Indonesia is an ideal market for smartphone used, which is still a large, fragmented and dysfunctional market. At least 20% of phones are illegally imported, stolen or counterfeited, according to a study by the Ministry of Industry & Qualcomm. Therefore, there is a great opportunity to provide better value to Indonesian consumers," said Stéphane.

Through digital advertising services a la OLX or Kaskus, the process of buying and selling used mobile phones is actually quite busy being practiced in Indonesia. But so far the "trust" factor is still the main variable in transactions, instead of a systematic assessment of the condition of the goods.

"In general most markets do not carry out quality control. We recorded 40% smartphone in the market in general it does not pass our tests, because it is not in good condition," added Stéphane.

He further said, "Specifically we are implementing a monetization strategy based on commissions from each transaction. We are also adding guarantees for devices on our platform."

Fundraising plan

Currently Jagofon has around 35 thousand active users and has sold 3 brands smartphone most popular premium in Indonesia, namely Apple, Samsung and Oppo. In the future, they will gradually add types and brands of goods that can be sold on the platform.

Although only selling on their own site, Jagofon is also currently conducting trials to integrate with the service online marketplace well-known in Indonesia, as an option for customers to access all the products they sell.

"Since it was launched in October 2020, until now we are still focusing on the Jabodetabek area. In the future, we also want to expand the service area," said Stéphane.

Jagofon has pocketed funding pre seed worth $254.000 of angel investors. Furthermore, the company also has plans to raise up to $500.000 in additional funds in the near future. Jagofon plans to use the fresh funds to expand the service area. This startup was previously a participant in the acceleration program GK-Plug and Play di batch 8th.
