Indosat Develops M2M Technology for Oil and Gas Sector

This M2M Hybrid technology is claimed by Indosat to be able to optimize oil and gas operations

Indosat in collaboration with POINTREK and Inmarsat, with support from SKK Migas, made a new innovation by providing information related to technology machine to machine (M2M) Hybrid in the context of upstream oil and gas operations. This technology is claimed to be able to provide efficiency, security and optimization of upstream oil and gas operations by connecting machines, sensors, devices, transport vessels, and other oil and gas assets to the control center or to the data processing center so that the analysis of the level of efficiency, effectiveness and security can be achieved in a more efficient way. good.

Constraints faced by companies in the oil and gas sector such as falling world oil prices, high operating costs and the decline in the rupiah exchange rate have forced all companies, not limited to oil and gas operations management companies, to reduce production costs by increasing operational effectiveness while increasing production capacity. Indosat itself is optimistic that M2M Hybrid is a solution to this problem.

“M2M Hybrid technology is capable of diagnosing various conditions, ranging from ship movement and the condition of important equipment, security monitoring, even to the condition of oil and gas flow in an oil and gas pipeline network. With the aim of increasing productivity and efficiency upstream oil and gas operations. Di moment that At the same time, M2M is a future business need, including the oil and gas sector," said Hendra Sumiarsa, Division Head of M2M Solutions Indosat.

Meanwhile, the government through SKK Migas said that the current condition of the oil and gas sector is a challenge for technology providers to provide appropriate and efficient technology.

“The connection of operational assets in the oil and gas sector will encourage better transparency and coupled with the latest economic conditions, it is a challenge for technology providers to provide solutions that are effective, efficient, simple, safe, reliable and support Good ones take advantage of national capacity,” said the Head of the Operational Support Division of SKKMIGAS Baris Sitorus.

POINTREK CEO Nirwan Harahap revealed that connectivity has now entered a new era. According to him, so far the existing connectivity has only been used for purposes such as telephone, fax and data transactions from the site to the head office or vice versa. With the M2M Hybrid technology, Nirwan said that important data on oil and gas operational conditions in the field can be sent directly from ships, tank pipes, platforms, pumps and sensors in the field automatically.

“The M2M Hybrid solution is more cost effective and ensures network redundancy. This technology can also be widely used in the maritime industry,” said Nirwan.

Indosat itself has prepared this M2M solution, including for connectivity, devices and applications that are used, starting from the upstream sector (upstream) to downstream (downstream). Indosat said that the M2M solution in each sector would have specific things, but in the future the data recorded in the upstream or downstream sectors could be displayed in a dashboards and able to interact with each other to the same standard.

"Indosat's M2M solution that is actively marketed" since 2015 will not only provide connectivity services between machines, but is expected to bring value for companies to be able to make comprehensive analyzes starting from descriptive, predictive and prescriptive which are important for decision making,” concluded Hendra.
