To Help Solve Garbage Problems, Scavenger Indonesia Application Launched

The low level of public awareness of recycling waste is one of the reasons the Scavenger Indonesia application was launched. Founded by Fio Wibawa, this project is promoted by The Better Green People (TBGP) Foundation, a non-profit organization.

To DailySocial, Fio revealed, the presence of the Scavenger Indonesia application is expected to be a solution to facilitate recycling problems in residential areas, by providing an application-based recycling service system, as well as helping scavengers (scavenger) earn extra income.

"With this mobile application, we hope that it can facilitate users who have waste with scavengers to work together to manage recyclable waste," said Fio.

As a pilot project, Scavenger Indonesia has collaborated with housing Kebayoran Village, Bintaro, South Tangerang. The purpose of this collaboration is to test residents' responses about the convenience offered by this application in recycling waste management.

Scavenger Indonesia has also collaborated with scavengers in the local area to provide education about how the application works and how easy it is to use the application.

"Hopefully in the future scavengers can work optimally to help residents to collect and sort the waste that will be recycled by them," said Fio.

Fitur Gamification and donation

Although it is still available in limited areas, users who want to take advantage of the Scavenger Indonesia application can download it on Google Play. Users can directly select the category of waste to be recycled and make a request to pickup the trash. Furthermore, the scavenger partners will receive a notification of garbage collection at the user's home and confirm the collection of the garbage.

"Specifically, the Scavenger application does not have a payment feature to scavengers who pick up trash at users' homes. However, we do have a donation feature that users can take advantage of," said Fio.

Currently Scavenger Indonesia has an application for users that is equipped with Gamification and reward points form rating for scavengers. Meanwhile, for scavengers, an application is also provided that can be used to view rating and reward points.

"Feature Gamification made in the form of a tree. The more recyclable waste that the scavengers bring, the bigger the tree grows in the application which the user directly gets in the form of "recycling points"These points can also be shared on users' social media accounts," said Fio .

Realizing that not all scavengers have smartphones, Scavenger Indonesia gives one smartphone to the leaders and scavenger associations in each region, which can be used to view rating and other activities.

"We previously had a dialogue with the local scavenger community. And in our opinion, this is the best way to implement a centralized system," said Fio.

Scavenger Indonesia has a plan to provide education to the scavenger community for easy use of the application. Scavenger Indonesia's plan is to increase partnerships with the scavenger community throughout 2018.

"This year we also hope to expand the service area in Jabodetabek, and also cooperate with scavenger organizations to be able to support the area," concluded Fio.
