The Indonesian Broadband Plan Program Has Officially Rolled Out for the Next Five Years

Big program Indonesia Broadband Plan which was echoed by the government in mid-2014, finally officially rolled out. Through Presidential Regulation No. 96 of 2014 concerning the recently published Indonesian Broadband Plan 2014-2019, restructuring the broadband development strategy (broadband) nationally will soon be realized, of course with the hope that all Indonesian people in all corners can enjoy the benefits of the internet network.

The development of high-speed internet access is clearly an inseparable part of the Indonesian nation's strategy to create an equitable internet network. In addition to aiming for unlimited information dissemination, this embodiment is also aimed at increasing the competitiveness of the community thanks to the internet.

In the official site Bappenas The Indonesian Broadband Plan 2014-2019 (RPI 2014-2019) aims to provide strategic direction and guidance in accelerating and expanding comprehensive and integrated broadband development in Indonesia for the next five years. The RPI program itself is included in one of the National Long-Term Development Plans for 2005-2025.

If it goes well, the target of this program is very "noble" for the internet network ecosystem in Indonesia. In his statement, there are two focuses that are expected to be realized in 2019. The first is an increase in the reach and speed of infrastructure access, and the second is a decrease in the price of services.

As has been reported Previously, the RPI program had a target to build broadband fixed access infrastructure in urban areas until its distribution reached 30% of the population, and 71% in households with access speeds of up to 20 Mbps. As for rural areas, the RPI program targets to spread to 6% of the population and 49% of households with a speed of 10 Mbps.

Not only that, infrastructure and support for broadband mobile access infrastructure (mobile broadband) is also encouraged by the government through this program. Targeted, network mobile broadband can reach the entire population in urban areas and 52% of the population in rural areas with each accessing speeds of up to 1Mbps.

Regarding service prices, this program is also "trying" so that by the end of 2019, prices can be reduced to a maximum of 5% of the average per capita income per month. The price of the service itself is often a problem that is still often complained by the public about the current high cost which is not comparable to the excellent network quality.

There are six flagship programs from the Presidential Regulation regarding the 2014-2019 RPI. Briefly, the six flagship programs refer to the growth of infrastructure in all sectors that are capable, ranging from the construction of fiber optic networks to all districts or cities, to the development of human resources and national ICT industry players. Not to mention, the construction of networks and data for the government is also being prepared.

Keep in mind, this big program will suck up a lot of budget. According to Armida Alisjahbana, Minister of Development Planning (PPN)/National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas), who revealed that the realization of the RPI program is estimated to reach IDR 278 trillion. "The APBN contribution is estimated to reach 10 percent of the total funding needs," said Armida according to the website Okezone (15 / 10).

With such large funds, this program should have run smoothly and the planned targets could land on target. In addition to the RPI program, similar efforts to realize a comprehensive high-speed internet network were also initiated by other entities, such as from Telkom International that join the SEA-US global consortium in the construction of submarine cable networks. Of all, of course there is no other hope than to be realized in the future for the adoption of internet technology that is increasingly comprehensive in people's lives.
