GOWES Inaugurates Presence in Bali

Plan other transportation service integrated service routes

After debuting last July in Jakarta, platform bike sharing local BICYCLING HAPPILY inaugurated its presence in Bali. The inauguration ceremony was carried out directly by the President Director of PT Surya Teknologi Perkasa Iwan Suryaputra and the Minister of Tourism Arief Yahya. According to the release received DailySocialAfter this launch, the company has operated hundreds of GOWES bicycles around Kuta and Sanur.

In a joint interview e27, Iwan once said that the company is well aware that the culture of using bicycles is still very minimal in Indonesia. However, he believes that this trial will result in a new trend among the public. At least as an alternative mode of transportation when they are on vacation in a tourist place. For this reason, the GOWES approach carried out initial launches in tourist locations, such as at Monas, Sanur, and Kuta.

Iwan also explained future plans for GOWES operations. The service will try to be integrated with stations and bus stops in Jakarta. The company is currently negotiating with building owners in the surrounding area to provide a special parking space for bicycles.

In the initial phase, GOWES also did not allow the operation to be fully automated by the system. They still involve human roles, especially in bicycle management. The company is well aware that there is a pessimistic stigma among the public about bike sharing, such as the risk of theft, returning bicycles carelessly / just thrown away, or others. These things have actually happened.

GOWES assigned a team to scan the area where the bikes had been left. Scanning activities are carried out in the middle of the night, when all activity stops. The team will then return it to the bicycle pick-up point, so that in the morning it is ready to be used again. Admittedly this method is not efficient, but for the sake of education, the company assesses that decreasing efficiency will create awareness in the community.

Supported by two companies that are already listed on the stock exchange, Kresna Graha Investama and M Cash, GOWES applies Tracking Device & Digital Indonesia Map-based technology on every bicycle unit. The implementation of this technology allows users not to have to return the used bicycle to a certain point as long as it is still in the GOWES operational area.

With the Tracking Device & Digital Indonesia Map on the bicycle, the GOWES team can track the location of the bicycle and then collect the bicycles that have been used by customers.
