General Skills A Product Manager Must Have

Role product manager in startup it is necessary. It has to do with finding the best form of a product or service and also for innovation. For startups it is important to find the right people to fill this position. For those who are preparing to become product manager here are some competence which must be owned by product manager.

To be product manager there are at least two core abilities that must be possessed. The first is emotional and social ability and the second is technical ability. Emotional and social skills will help a lot product manager in team management and understanding users. Meanwhile, technical capabilities can play a very important role in discussions with the technical team regarding the technology used for a feature or technology that is optimal and can be well received by users.

Management ability

One of the competencies incorporated in the previously mentioned core competencies is management ability. Both self and team management. In addition, social sensitivity is an important point that should not be forgotten. Management skills and sensitivity to the social environment can help product manager to understand the team as well as understand the users.

Product Manager often likened to a link between market needs and the development team. It means product manager must have the ability to discuss and communicate with users both to get feedback through various means. After that product manager also responsible for translating market desires to the user team properly so that the features or products developed further meet the needs or are at least useful for the users.

Technical ability

Next is the technical ability, the ability that must be possessed to be able to communicate well with the development team and the technical team within the company. Understanding of technology is also very necessary to be able to give weighty consideration to the technical team.

One of the technical skills that must be possessed is data related skills. Whether it's collecting, processing, and taking insights from the data. Even though product manager can be assisted by other teams who have more skills related to data, the ability to "read" data is a must-have.
