Does Indocomtech 2013 Reflect the Advancement of the IT Industry in Indonesia?

As usual, in the fourth quarter towards the end of the year a event computer and consumer electronics Indonesia's largest, Indocomtech. The event, which was held by the Apkomindo Foundation and Dyandra Promosindo, was opened last Wednesday by targeting thousands of visitors within five days.

Do you remember last year's Indocomtech theme? In 2012 the organizers carried the theme Connect to the Future. As if a year is enough time for the Indonesian IT industry to reach the future, this time Indocomtech has the theme Live in the Future. "As one of the barometers of industrial and technological development" information and communication technology in Indonesia, this exhibition will present the latest technologies and features in various IT devices," said Rudi Rusdiah, the representative of the Board of Trustees of the Apkomindo Foundation.

Then we ask, what exactly is the barometer? Apkomindo and Dyandra argue that the large potential of the Indonesian market is Indonesia's attraction for world technology and gadget manufacturers. They break down the figures: based on IDC data, IT spending in Indonesia reached US$ 14,7 billion, which means an increase of 13,2% compared to last year. Then Business Monitor International stated that the Indonesian IT market is still quite promising, with the retail market as one of the main drivers of growth.

Based on Fastmr data, for this year only sales hardware computers is estimated to reach IDR 44,7 trillion with a prediction of IDR 63,7 trillion in 2017. For sales itself, in 2013 it touched the figure of Rp. 7,6 trillion and in the next four years it is estimated to increase to Rp. 12,7 trillion. Not only that, IT services for this year reap a profit of Rp. 10,7 with the assumption that in 2017 it will reach Rp. 16,7.

In the Opening Ceremony presentation, the organizers argued that there was a fusion for smartphone gadgets, tablets and handsets his class. They created a new line - the line mobile devices. Indeed tablet sales exploded in recent years. Based on eMarketers data, this year in Indonesia alone, mobile penetration reached 64%. While it's true that the PC and laptop market is experiencing a slight decline worldwide, that's not the case with sales of separate components: the GPU market, motherboard, other components to peripherals such as keyboard mechanic and gaming gear. Their sales figures increase constantly and significantly.

Even in the market Gaming demand is increasing. Not a few producers - both local and international - are issuing notebook gaming high performance. Of course if this line isn't profitable, why bother launching a new product every few months? The market that was previously dominated by Alienware is now slowly being entered by fairly new names such as MSI to local products such as Xenom.

There are two new programs introduced in Indocomtech this year. The first is Super Auction, the result of the organizer's collaboration with Intel. As the name suggests, every day there will be an auction notebook, tablets up to smartphone Intel powered. This activity was held in the exhibition area at different times. The second is the 0% BRING program from Bank Rakyat Indonesia. As the main sponsor of Indocomtech this year, BRI credit card owners are charged a 0% installment fee for each purchase transaction in the exhibition area.

Profit potential in the market consumer electronics Indonesia does look tempting - especially with the data we see above - for producers and distributors. But what about producers from Indonesia themselves, how are they developing in a market filled with international names? If you come to the exhibition, please compare the number of 'stalls' of multinational companies with those established by local children.

These data also indicate that it seems that the concept of 'success' which is the argument of the organizers is the high level of consumption and the potential of the domestic market for these products. consumer electronics - not how significant local electronic products and gadgets are in the eyes of local and foreign consumers, as well as international producers.

Moreover, there has been a slight shift in the meaning of 'exhibition' in the minds of Indonesian audiences. If you come to Computex, the Consumer Electronics Show or any other overseas IT fair, an exhibition is an exhibition: where manufacturers and vendors show off new features, new products or whatever things are their mainstay. In Indonesia, the meaning of exhibition merges with the concept of a bazaar - an exhibition area is no different from a shopping center.

Indocomtech 2013 was held at the Jakarta Convention Center, starting on 30 October and ending on 3 November. The ticket price is IDR 10.000 on weekdays and IDR 15.000 on weekends.
