Pontus Sonnerstedt Country Manager Officially Leaves Yahoo! Indonesia

After two years as Country Manager, Pontus Sonnerstedt will officially leave Yahoo! Indonesia starts early next year. Pontus joins Yahoo! in late 2007 as Senior Director for Emerging Markets left SonyEricsson Asia Pacific before starting to manage Yahoo! in Indonesia since early 2008.

Under his leadership, Yahoo! Indonesia acquires Koprol in May 2010 which was the first time a technology company from Indonesia was fully purchased by a multinational company. Yahoo! Indonesia also launched Yahoo! OMG! for Indonesia, which is rapidly becoming one of the most popular entertainment sites in Indonesia. Yahoo! Post, a social search site, was also recently launched under Pontus' leadership.

Official news from Yahoo! himself posted to DailySocial a while ago. Although without including any statement from Pontus or Yahoo! itself, it was said that Pontus would seek new opportunities in different industries. There is no word yet on what Pontus will do after this.

Before Pontus, Budi Putra (Country Editor) also left his post on Yahoo! Indonesia to become a startup consultant in Southeast Asia while running its own startup, explorer. Budi's role was replaced by deputy editor Ibnu Rusydi or commonly known as Dodi.
