CT Corp Will Also Enter E-Commerce Sector
Increase the length of the row of conglomerates who want to become champions in this segment
It didn't take long for all the big capitalized giants, especially those with established businesses in the retail sector, to take part in the Indonesian e-commerce marathon race. After Salim Group partners with South Korean retail giant Lotte To take part next year, it is now the turn of CT Corp, owned by entrepreneur Chairul Tanjung, to prepare ammunition in this sector. There is no information yet on when CT Corp's e-commerce services will operate, but later this service will operate separately from Trans Retail, which oversees CT Corp's various retail business units.
As quoted from Seconds, Chairul Tanjung said, "We are currently preparing E-commerce because we want it to be a champion immediately. If you don't become a champion, it's better not to do it, because our business line is complete. There are hypermarkets, department stores, airlines, hotels , food and beverages, as well as entertainment. We want all of our e-commerce platforms to be available."
From the retail business it owns, CT Corp can be said to have various properties that are suitable for sale online. Even without the support of third parties, there will be many things that are immediately available when this e-commerce service is ready. For example, the Carrefour hypermarket network, department store Metro, various hotels and entertainment venues under the management of TransStudio, and a number of fashion products branded become an added value for this e-commerce service. Of course if they know how to execute it online.
Becoming a champion in Indonesian e-commerce services will not happen in a short time. It takes big capital and a long breath to compete with Lazada, Tokopedia, Matahari Mall, and various other conglomerates vying to become the Amazon of Indonesia. It is estimated that the e-commerce industry in Indonesia will be worth $130 billion by 2020.
