Bukalapak Enters the "Fulfillment" Business Through BukaGudang

Bukalapak adds a row marketplace Consumer-to-Consumer (C2C) in Indonesia entering the service fulfillment business (fulfillment) via BukaGudang. This service has not been officially introduced, but its services can be enjoyed by pelapak since March 9, 2020.

VP Marketplace Bukalapak Kurnia Rosyada to DailySocial said, to roll out this service OpenWarehouse take two partners fulfillment, PT IDCommerce and Crewdible. The latter is a micro-warehousing network provider startup.

According to Kurnia, one of the advantages of using BukaGudang's services is that sellers can process buyer orders faster, which is less than a day from the normal 2x24 hour deadline.

"The BukaGudang service aims to increase the convenience of transacting at Bukalapak by helping pelapak manage their operational activities through warehouse and storage management, packing goods, and distribution of goods to third parties," he explained.

For now, continued Kurnia, BukaGudang service is still in the Proof of Concept (POC) stage. He admitted that currently the company is still trying to encourage the number of sellers who use BukaGudang.

In addition, his party is also still trying to improve the automation of inbound and outbound, such as carrying out physical checks of goods and strategies to improve outbound goods. Kurnia assessed that this still requires a manual process to be more accurate.

"Transactions from sellers using BukaGudang that enter BukaMall are higher than the average transaction from other sellers. Currently, BukaGudang users come from the electronics business, groceries, and beauty industry categories," he added.

With Bukalapak's entry into the service fulfillment business, Kurnia believes this strategy is carried out to strengthen Bukalapak's commitment to meeting the needs of the Indonesian people. Collaboration with service providers fulfillment assessed as an effort of actors in the e-commerce industry to increase the convenience of transactions.

In a statement on its official website, BukaGudang provides warehouses for goods storage, warehouse management, warehouse inventory, and resources for processing orders.

Registered pelapak can only use delivery services specified by BukaGudang, including Sicepat, J&T, Ninja, Lion Parcel, Grab, and Go-Send. This service is just serving services fulfillment in the Greater Jakarta area.

Kurnia said that Bukalapak was looking at the potential for expansion in other big cities in Indonesia.

In addition to Bukalapak, Tokopedia has already entered through Branch Store which has been operating commercially since last year. Tokopedia cooperates with PT Bintang Digital Internasional (Haistar) and Titipaja (the newest business unit for logistics services last mile Antheraja).

Shopee is also getting into business fulfillment via service"Managed by Shopee" last September by utilizing its own warehouse. It claims that on average orders are sent two hours after the user completes the transaction.

MSMEs fill the marketplace

The pandemic period is a momentum for perpetrators marketplace to accommodate the surge in online shopping transactions during the pandemic. On the other hand, MSME sellers are also increasingly filling the marketplace.

TokoTalk's latest survey states, there is a trend of increasing the number of MSMEs moving online during the pandemic. This can be seen from the increase in the number of MSME registrants on the platform and starting to create their own sites.

From this increase, MSMEs in the Greater Jakarta area dominated the largest increase in the total, followed by East Java and West Java.

Head of Business Development TokoTalk Kemas Antonius said that more and more MSMEs would inevitably have to transform digitally to adapt to the pandemic. The trick is to change the way of selling and increase online transactions in order to accommodate changes in consumer behavior.
