OpenSignal: Telkomsel Still the Best Operator in Indonesia

OpenSignal re-publishes report State of Mobile Networks Indonesia for June 2018. This report provides an overview of the quality and quantity of cellular operator networks in Indonesia. As previously reported in December 2017, Telkomsel lead in almost all aspects. The difference this time is that Smartfren started to show its strength by winning the Overall Download Speed ​​and 4G Network Availability categories.

The methodology used by OpenSignal is summary speedtest using the OpenSignal application in the period 1 February - 1 May 2018 with measurements of 11,7 million times with 1,2 million test equipment.

Telkomsel master the categories of 4G Download Speed, 3G Download Speed, 4G Upload Speed, 4G Latency, and 3G Latency. Average download speed on 4G network Telkomsel reaching 12,86 Mbps, on 3G networks reaching 4,99 Mbps, and 4G uploading speeds reaching 7,26 Mbps.  

Smartfren itself, because its network is only for 4G and no longer accommodates 3G, managed to win two categories. Nevertheless, it should be appreciated that Smartfren's 4G Download Speed ​​reaches 9,83 Mbps, superior to XL Axiata which previously followed Telkomsel.

The report also shows that Indosat Ooredoo is the operator with the "worst" network quality. Indosat is in the bottom position for almost all categories. The only "advantage" of Indosat compared to Telkomsel is the percentage of 4G network compared to the total network which reaches 70%. Smartfren as the winner of this category recorded a figure of 92%, while Telkomsel still stagnant at the bottom of this category with 69%.

Regionally, OpenSignal tries to map the quality and quantity of the network for a number of cities with similar results. Though Telkomsel continues to dominate, Smartfren began to give surprises, especially in the cities of Makassar and Surabaya.
